Catie Graver, one of the female crews in the Shipboard Scientific Services Group on Research Vessel Atlantis. Catie is a shipboard technician and holds a bachelor degree in oceanography. Therefore, she knows what we scientists want and is able to assist us in a timely manner. I am always impressed by her hard-working attitude. When she operates the A-frame, she always gently lowers down or lifts Alvin for deployment or recovery. I feel that the A-frame is an extension of Catie's arm. Many of Catie's words during the interview really stick to my mind
"If you don't think there is a difference (between male and female), there should probably not a difference."
"Just do Things."
"Don't think there is a limitation to yourself".
PS: Dr. Jim Cowen often said the last two phases to encourage me. These two phases have helped me through many of my struggles and hesitations.
